Overview
Many physicians, especially specialists, spend a significant amount of time seeing patients in the hospital. Recording these visits in patient management systems has been traditionally awkward, mainly because of a lack of remove access to the physician practice management system.
RBF Hospitals is a web application designed to address this issue. Physicians can log into RBF Hospitals from any web browser and have secure access to patient information in a way that allows them to record (a) ICD9 diagnoses, (b) CPT procedures, and (c) general comments.
RBF Hospitals will also allow an administrator to export data into other billing systems, such as WebMD.

Design Principles
Security of patient information
Hospitals is designed from the ground-up to store patient information in a HIPAA-compliant, responsible way.
Non-repudiability
All data entered into the system is non-repudiable. In other words, patient records are write-only.
Mobile browser support
Hospitals is designed from the ground-up to work with a mobile browser (such as the iPhone).
This means designing for environments with high latency, small screens, and touch screen interfaces.

Design
1. Security
1a. Storage; No identifying patient information is ever stored in the database un-encrypted. Searching over encrypted fields is implemented using a unique patent pending technique.
1b. Passwords: RBF Hospitals comes with a guide to implementing a responsible password management policy, and the software enforces strong passwords and responsible password management policies (routinely changing passwords, logging invalid login attempts)
1c. Transmission: no patient information is ever transmitted over an insecure connection (this demo, of note, is not secured).

2b. Patient Detail Screen: A screen to view patient details and history, as well as to edit the patient details and enter new diagnoses, procedures, and comments.
2c. Quick Log Screen: A screen that allows the entry of diagnoses, procedures, and comments for multiple patients.
